Welcome to another season of swimming!
We are excited to embark on another season of the Stingrays!
Welcome to all new swimmers and their families to the Stingrays Swim Team. To those of you who have swam with us in the past, welcome back. We are all excited for another great season. Returning this year are head coaches, Melissa Callaghan and Jessa Huff, assistants Diane Seltzer and Sarah DeSimone. New to the winter coaching staff this season are assistants Anne Lessard, Chloe Abu-Jaber and Elizabeth Smith.
Combined the coaches bring over 30 years of experience to our team. Our goals include working with swimmers to improve their stroke technique, endurance and competitive swimming skill. For many swimmers this will build on years of practice, while for others it will be a new experience. We will do our best to instruct in an encouraging and upbeat way to create an environment where all swimmers feel safe and welcome. We expect our swimmers to show respect to both their coaches and teammates so that the team is a positive experience for all involved. We pride ourselves, as a team, on showing good sportsmanship with opposing teams during all competitions. All of our swimmers have the ability to learn new things and improve on what they already know. We can guarantee that with some hard work and dedication, each swimmer will notice a significant improvement throughout the season.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind each of you that our swim meets run smoothly because of our parental involvement. We are dependent on parent volunteers to help our meets run efficiently. Even if you have never touched a stopwatch or been to a swim meet, don’t be afraid to volunteer! This upcoming season can be a learning experience for you, just as it is for your children. For those with swimming backgrounds, we are always looking for parents to be trained as Stroke and Turn Judges. We will be holding a training session here at Longfellow for all interested parties once the season starts.
The Stingrays uses email, a team bulletin board outside the pool, and our team website for all communication. Team results will be emailed out following all swim meets. All swimmers must sign up for swim meets (either yes or no) on the website http://stingrays.natickonline.com. In addition, parents should also sign up for volunteer positions on the website. Due to the overwhelming job of scheduling swimmers in events, all swimmers must respond on the website at least one week in advance of the meet.
All communications will be sent out via email. Parents are encouraged to express any concerns or questions to Melissa and Jessa through email, as the transition time between one practice session and the next can be a very busy time and the coaches will not be able to give your question/concern their full attention. In the event a question must be asked during practice, we ask that you direct your question to Melissa or Jessa.
Each swimmer is required to attend two practices a week in order to swim in the weekend’s meet. We know this is not always possible. Please communicate with Melissa and Jessa via email if you will not be able to attend two practices prior to a meet.
Thank you for being a part of our team! We look forward to a great season!
See you at the pool,
The Coaches
