Volunteer Positions
The following terms are ones that will become common to you throughout the
meet season. The positions are not difficult and I will further explain your
functions when you volunteer. Thank you for your help.
Expectations are that each family volunteers a minimum of four meets per season.
Starter - Person in charge of running the meet. Announces events and calls swimmers to blocks and starts each race.
Timers - Simply start the stopwatch at the whistle and stop it when the swimmer finishes his/her race. Record time on swimmers card. Give card to runner.
Runners - Take event cards from timers and gives them to scorers.
Stroke a Turn Judge - Looks for legal turns and any stroke violations. (Experience swimmers please consider thisl position.)
Ribbon writers - Records name of swimmers on individual ribbons, gives all ribbons to coaches.
Ribbon Sorter - Sort the ribbons by team so that each team takes home the correct number of first, second, third and participant ribbons
Scorer (A) - Tracks team score based on event cards and places. Scores are 3 points for 1st,
2 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd. Will have to be trained on the new computer
scoring program "Team & Meet Manager".
Scorer (B) - Averages the event time for each swimmer to be entered in the computer.
Card Labeler - Day of meet. Place swimmers entry sticker on individual event card.
