Stingray Expectations

The coaches, and team expect the following from all our swimmers and families…

I. Promptness… please be on time to practices and meets

II. Kindness… no poking, prodding, touching, hitting, splashing, name calling,.. ect

III. Politeness… Please & Thank you

IV. Prepared… Come with suit, cap, goggles, towels, WATER BOTTLES, pool shoes recommended.

V. Open Communication…please use email or see us at the pool
  a. Sign up for meet in advance (yes or no) and please be committed to that meet.
  b. Email emergency cancellations ASAP (no later than 10am on the day of the meet).
  c. Check email regularly during the season
      i. If you are not receiving emails, let us know immediately!
      ii. SNOW Cancellations etc will all be on email.
      iii. Vacation practices TBA

VI. Volunteer – YOU can be trained! All families are expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 times throughout the season
  a. Starter - Starts meet
  b. Timer - Works a stop watch to time the meet
  c. Stroke & turn Judge – Judges swimmers for legal strokes.
       (Information about these trainings to be sent out via email.)
  d. Runner - Carries entries cards to either the other end of the pool or the score table
  e. Scorer - Averages times or inserts them in the computer
  f. “Ribbon sorter” – Sorts ribbons at home meets to send visiting team home with correct ribbons
  g. “Ribbon labeler” – Labels ribbons and organizers them for the swimmers Monday at practice following meets.
  h. “Card labelers” – Day of meet, places labels on event cards during warm-up.

VII. Meets – each swimmer must attend 4 meets AND championships.
  a. SIGN up in advance! NO later a week before the next meet. (i.e., sign up Saturday for the next Saturday's meet.)
  b. If your child is going to miss a meet you already signed up for due to illness, please let us know ASAP through either email or in person. This is important because Coaches spend a lot of time and effort setting up the roster and last minute changes are difficult.
  c. For each meets, all swimmers on the team are expected to stay together in a designated location. For home meets this will be one half of the basketball court. No one will be permitted to leave this area unless they are given permission by a designated coach. Swimmers who leave this area without permission will not be searched for when it is time for their race.
  d. Swimmers are expected to stay until the end of the meet if possible, and join the team cheer following the last race. Swimmers who must leave the meet early, must check in with both Jess and Melissa before leaving.

VIII. Championships – New format this year to be announced
  a. Two championships either by age
       1. 6-10 years old in AM.
       2. 11 and older in PM.
  b. March 7th, 2009 at Boston University.

IX. Sportsmanship
  a. The key word is respect. Respect for your teammates, coaches, officials, competition, parents, swimming facilities and yourself. Disrespectfulness or negative talking will not be tolerated.
  b. All swimmers are expected to try their best and display the utmost level of sportsmanship. This includes cheering on teammates, participating in the team cheer, and this year we will be working with swimmers to stay in the water during meets until ALL swimmers have finished the race, and then shaking hands or congratulating their competition.
